GEICO currently has an opening for an Employee Benefits / ERISA In-house Counsel based at GEICO’s Corporate Headquarters located in Chevy Chase, Maryland. This position is in the Employment Law Practice Group in the Office of the General Counsel. </div> <div></div> <div> Responsibilities: </div> <ul> <li> <div> Advises on all aspects of employee retirement, health, and welfare benefits, which may include, but is not limited to, ERISA, IRS, and regulatory compliance; tax withholding and reporting; plan administration; and fiduciary matters. Supports the negotiation of contractual arrangements with plan vendors. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <ul> <li> <div> Advises on general employment related matters, including but not limited to investigation of internal complaints; wage and hour compliance; workers’ compensation, unemployment and other state agency claims; labor relations; employment agreements; and policy related issues. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <ul> <li> <div> Supports the resolution of employment related disputes and litigation, including class and collective actions and EEOC/agency matters, in partnership with the employment legal team. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <ul> <li> <div> Establishes and maintains relationships, credibility, and trust with cross functional partners, stakeholders, legal team members and other colleagues. Able to work independently to manage multiple, competing priorities and attain results by exercising appropriate judgment to manage matters through ambiguity and to completion. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Requirements: </div> <ul> <li> <div> Juris Doctor degree required </div></li> <li> <div> Admission to the Maryland/Virginia/Washington, DC Bar required </div></li> <li> <div> Candidate must have graduated from an accredited law school and be admitted to a state bar. </div></li> <li> <div> Must have a minimum of 3+ years of ERISA experience and 5+ years of employment experience in a corporate legal organization (or equivalent experience in a law firm). </div></li> <li> <div> LLM in Taxation preferred, but not required </div></li> <li> <div> The ability to handle a considerable volume of work and to work under pressure with multiple/shifting deadlines. </div></li> <li> <div> Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills. </div></li> <li> <div> Experience at an accounting company, insurance company, trust company, asset manager, recordkeeper or other financial services company with experience in advising on retirement plan recordkeeping, operations administration, investment products and management services preferred but not required. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Benefits: </div> <div> At GEICO, we make sure you have the support and resources to leverage and develop your skills, secure your financial future, and take care of your health and well-being.
