We will empower you to lead, develop deep expertise, and find new approaches to solving the toughest challenges. <br> <br> <b>POSITION OVERVIEW:</b> <br> The Chamber seeks an experienced Tax Counsel who will serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on all matters relating to U.S. federal and international tax policy. This includes the development of tax policy positions, advocacy on tax issues, and coordination of efforts to influence tax legislation and regulation. This individual will work directly with the Chamber’s Senior Vice President (SVP) for Tax Policy to engage with Chamber members and build consensus regarding important policy positions and advocacy strategies. He or she will also work collaboratively with key internal Chamber stakeholders across the policy division, the government affairs team, and the communications, legal, and international teams. This new Tax Counsel will also share responsibility for managing the Chamber’s 150-member Taxation Committee, the Chamber’s standing committee of primary jurisdiction over tax policy. <br>The Tax Counsel will support the Chamber’s SVP for Tax Policy in maintaining liaison and managing relationships with Congress, the executive branch, trade associations, think tanks, foundations, and other relevant subject matter experts. <br> <br> <b>RESPONSIBILITIES:</b> <br> <ul> <li>Analyzing federal and international tax legislative and regulatory proposals for comments, statements, and press releases supporting the Chamber’s policy aims</li> <li>Anticipating relevant shifts and changes in the legislative and regulatory arenas; helping shape legislation and regulatory policy in ways that allow the Chamber to capitalize on opportunities and eliminate barriers</li> <li>Speaking at relevant internal and external functions (e.g., summits, meetings, webinars) and participating in select media interviews</li> <li>Developing the Chamber’s policy positions through extensive interaction with member companies; presenting policy outlooks at corporate briefings and on fundraising calls</li> <li>Preparing comments or testimony in support of specific Chamber tax policy positions</li> <li>Creating and publishing content for Chamber blog posts</li> <li>Participating in coalitions and as a panelist at member-hosted events</li> <li>Producing and maintaining tax matrices to keep members on schedule, and cataloging Chamber tax work</li> <li>Organizing lobbying activities and preparing lobbying reports</li> <li>Conducting surveys and studies on tax-related issues</li> <li>Monitoring major news sources, government releases, and think tanks for tax-related articles and events</li> <li>Maintaining social media presence to promote Chamber tax-related news</li> </ul> <b>REQUIREMENTS:</b> <br> <ul> <li>4–7 years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following settings: the tax department of a major law firm; the national tax practice of a “Big 4” accounting firm; the Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Policy; an IRS Associate Chief Counsel office; on a relevant congressional committee staff; or as tax counsel for an appropriate trade association</li> <li>Involvement in the federal legislative and regulatory processes, with demonstrable accomplishments in influencing outcomes</li> <li>Demonstrated track record of working effectively on complex tax policy issues and interfacing with the political, legislative, and regulatory structures of the federal government.</li> <li>Above all, the ideal candidate will be an accomplished lawyer with a demonstrated interest in tax policy</li> </ul> <b>Additional qualifications include:</b> <br> <ul> <li>Deep knowledge of domestic and international tax laws and accounting principles</li> <li>Experience and an understanding of how to build consensus regarding important policy positions and relevant strategies</li> <li>Strong political acumen and a deep understanding of the U.S. legislative process</li> <li>A strong communicator who can persuasively communicate—both orally and in writing—complex topics to member company executives and senior government officials</li> <li>Strong public speaking skills and a reasonable level of comfort interacting with the press</li> <li>A Juris Doctor (J.D.) is required.
