Together, these teams help us make the best possible decisions for our airline, to run our business with integrity, ensuring our airline operates lawfully and ethically, creating a company we are all proud to work for.</p> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Key Responsibilities: </h2> <ul> <li>Counsel for in-house legal department</li> <li>Provides guidance to Company on all matters related to disputes and litigation</li> <li>Meaningful experience in a broad range of litigation matters; relevant experience includes commercial and contract disputes, personal injury, environmental, insurance coverage, class action disputes, among others</li> <li>Ability to think through legal issues from a business perspective, evaluate and articulate risk on a cost-benefit basis, ensure key legal perspectives are considered to propose creative alternative solutions</li> <li>Ability to quickly learn new subject matter areas and understand business considerations</li> <li>Strategic oversight and direction to outside counsel concerning the handling of assigned caseload of lawsuits, claims, and subpoenas</li> <li>Supports partners and company witnesses on matters relating to litigation, including witness interviews, document collection, depositions, hearings, and other adversarial proceedings</li> <li>Represents United in mediations, arbitration, and other settlement negotiation</li> <li>Assists with responses to complex third-party subpoenas and pre-litigation disputes, including handling of these matters independently and in-house</li> <li>Supports the Associate General Counsel-Litigation in management and improvement of practice area</li> <li>Identifies and provides training to Business on relevant and emerging areas of the law tailored to the specific Business unit </li> </ul> <p>United values diverse experiences, perspectives, and we encourage everyone who meets the minimum qualifications to apply. We are always looking for individuals who will bring something new to the table! </p> </div> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Qualifications</b></h2> <div> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader">What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications): </h2> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s Degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree; member in good standing of the bar in any jurisdiction of the United States and, within a reasonable period of time, authorized to practice law in-house for United in Illinois or job location</li> <li>Significant experience (+5 years minimum) advising clients on all aspects of Litigation and dispute resolution, and personally handling cases / issues in those areas</li> <li>Bar admission and active member in good standing in at least one state</li> <li>Extensive knowledge of all relevant aspects of Litigation and dispute resolution</li> <li>Excellent analytical skills and the ability to render persuasive, diplomatic, practical, creative, and legally compliant advice in a timely fashion</li> <li>Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially of complex issues</li> <li>Excellent interpersonal skills and strong planning/organization abilities</li> <li>Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills</li> <li>Proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of corporate management, including Senior Executive Leadership</li> <li>Ability to handle multiple priorities and handle high-pressure situations and short deadlines</li> <li>Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship</li> <li>Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification</li> <li>Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position</li> <li>This position requires work from our Chicago office 3 days a week</li> </ul> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader">What will help propel you from the pack (Preferred Qualifications): </h2> <ul> <li>Illinois Bar admission</li> <li>Law firm and in-house experience strongly preferred</li> <li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.</li> </ul> <p>United Airlines is an equal opportunity employer.
