THE OPPORTUNITY We have an incredible opportunity for a Real Estate Counsel with 10+ years of leasing and development experience. The ideal candidate will have (i) extensive first chair role, national leasing and subleasing experience for both landlords and tenants (with tenant side, retail leasing a requirement), (ii) Real Estate development experience (with retail experience a priority, including some shopping center development and reciprocal easement agreement transactions), and (iii) a broad general Real Estate background, including the ability to handle acquisition, disposition, finance and other general portfolio management matters for several client teams. The Counsel role is a salaried position open to candidates looking for full time employment who may not seek to be in a partner-track position, but who want to continue to do sophisticated real estate and leasing work for larger client teams with immediate and material direct client involvement and responsibilities. Chicago area candidates a strong preference, but will consider qualified candidates located near any of our U.S. national offices. YOU HAVE: 10+ years of real estate experience, specifically in leasing and development. Top law firm experience with excellent academic credentials. Strong analytical skills. Polished personal and verbal communication skills, including strong negotiation and client relation and management abilities. Outstanding written communication and complex drafting skills required. Strong work ethic, including experience managing a large number of transactions concurrently. Outstanding deal and time management skills, including the ability to handle a heavy work load efficiently and to manage junior attorneys and paralegals. Desire to work on and become an integral part of several client teams.
