<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText jobsearch-JobComponent-description css-1axw7mm eu4oa1w0"><div> <div> <div> <b>Description</b> </div> <div> <p>The Nebraska Department of Justice / Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is currently seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Attorney General ("AAG") in the Office's Criminal Prosecution Division. The AAG shall represent the state prosecuting criminal cases in state trial courts throughout Nebraska.<br> <br> Salary commensurate with comparable state agency positions and candidate experience. Full-time state benefits available. Veterans preference applicable.<br> <br> <b>Please email a cover letter, writing sample and resume to:</b><br> Nebraska Attorney General’s Office<br> Email AGO.recruiting@nebraska.gov</p> </div> <div> <b>Examples of Work</b> </div> <div> <div> Responsibilities include: <br> <ul> <li>Prosecuting a wide variety of felony and misdemeanor crimes including homicide, child and elderly abuse, white collar, property, drug, official misconduct, and other cases as assigned.</li> <li>Consulting with crime victims and updating victim liaisons about case status.</li> <li>Communicating with witnesses, defense counsel, and peer County Attorneys regarding pending matters.</li> <li>Researching issues of criminal law, writing briefs and memoranda, conducting pretrial hearings, negotiations and trials all in the pursuit of successful prosecutions.</li> </ul> </div> </div> <div> <b>Qualifications / Requirements</b> </div> <div> <p>REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an ABA accredited law school and a license to practice law in Nebraska, or clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion; Minimum at least one year of experience in a private law firm, government agency or as a judicial clerk. Excellent legal writing skills and demonstrated work ethic.<br> <br> PREFERRED: Three or more years of civil litigation, appellate advocacy or criminal prosecution experience. Prior experience in successful prosecution of significant felony crimes or public corruption cases strongly preferred. Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the relevant position.<br> <br> OTHER: Travel throughout the state of Nebraska required. A criminal history and abuse background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.
