<i> The Position</i>

Barings’ Public Assets Legal Team is looking for an attorney to join its Legal Department in the Charlotte, NC office. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for providing advice with respect to high yield bond and syndicated leveraged bank loan investments but also responsible for advising other areas of Barings’ Public Assets business.

The Global Legal mission is to provide legal support and advice with the goal of managing and mitigating legal risk for the company and acting as a partner to our internal business clients supporting any legal needs that arise on a day-to-day basis.

The Public Assets Legal Team carries out that mission by collaborating with internal business teams in all aspects of their work to provide high-quality, solutions-oriented legal advice with the goal of supporting business growth and opportunities.

<i> Primary Responsibilities</i>
</div>
<ul>
<li> Provide day to day support to fixed income research analysts and portfolio managers on issues related to investments in syndicated leveraged loans and high yield bonds, including legal analysis of credit documents and bond indentures</li>
<li> Provide internal legal advice for Barings investment and managed accounts</li>
<li> Build relationships with and work alongside teams within the business including Product Management, Distribution, Operations, Compliance and Risk functions and other members of the global Legal Team, as appropriate</li>
<li> Assist with the identification of legal issues and retain and interface with external law firms in order to render appropriate legal advice</li>

<i> Qualifications</i>
</div>
<ul>
<li> Minimum 4 years of experience working on legal issues involving high yield debt, leveraged loans, collateralized loan obligations or corporate finance at a law firm or financial institution</li>
<li> Strong negotiating skills and ability to work through complex credit situations</li>
<li> Ability to appropriately prioritize tasks, organize, and coordinate work while showing initiative, independence and sound judgment</li>
<li> Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team</li>
<li> Ability and willingness to take ownership and responsibility for tasks</li>
<li> Willingness to go beyond existing areas of expertise and work in new areas of law relevant to the business</li>
<li> High standards of personal integrity and sound business judgment</li>
<li> Significant interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully deal with internal colleagues, external counsel, and other third parties at senior levels</li>
<li> J.D. from a highly regarded law school</li>
<li> Licensed to practice law in North Carolina (or another US jurisdiction, with the ability to obtain license in North Carolina)</li>
<li> Must be willing to comply with the provisions of Barings’ Code of Ethics related to personal securities activities and other disclosure and certification requirements</li>
