Description
Newmeyer & Dillion is a multi-service law firm that provides both litigation and transactional representation in a variety of practice areas. While the firm has gained national recognition for its construction and insurance work, the firm provides representation in a comprehensive range of practice areas including: business and real estate litigation, real estate and corporate transactions, labor and employment, land use and eminent domain, environmental, bankruptcy, asset protection and lender liability. The firm represents a wide variety of clients, which include national and local businesses, real estate development companies, and individuals. The firm has offices in Newport Beach, Walnut Creek and Las Vegas. This position will be based out of the firm's Las Vegas, NV office. We are seeing a Litigation Paralegal for our Las Vegas office with a minimum of 4 years of experience for our complex litigation cases. Defense experience is preferred. The litigation Paralegal will work closely with, and under the immediate direction of attorneys. This person should be able to perform essential functions of the job and will assist with general paralegal duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assists other paralegals and attorneys with assignments. Assists in preparing tender letters. Assist in the preparation of matrices and other charts and spreadsheets as needed. Review, organize and summarize case materials and mail and other case related documents. Reviews and summarizes discovery as needed. Creates, revises, and proofreads documents with high accuracy. Must be able to assist with mediation and trial preparation. Perform general case management and other duties as assigned. Perform document management using firm software to include, but not limited to MS Excel, Word, and Summation. Perform legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, the internet and various government agency sites. Keeps accurate time records for both billable and non-billable tasks Education: Undergraduate degree and ABA approved paralegal certificate required. Experience: Minimum of 4 years of litigation experience required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person or by telephone and email, and follow the instruction effectively from other members of our staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact. Individual should possess a high degree of self-directed initiative and individual judgment. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing assignments. Must have the ability to work in a fast passed environment. Ability to multi-task and work on multiple assignments and tasks, as well as have the ability to prioritize based upon deadlines, matter significance and client need. Ability to organize documents (alphabetical or numerical) and file with accuracy. Must be able to recognize and comprehend facts and legal assignments. Ability to analyze pleadings. Maintain and update databases. Must meet deadlines Must be very detail oriented. Ability to locate and retrieve necessary documents as needed. Strong verbal, written analytical organizational and interpersonal skills. Completion of tasks in a timely fashion, meeting deadlines, and effective time management. Proficiency in, and ability to use, standard office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine, binding machine, and Equatrac machine. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
