We have an opening for a Specialist Paralegal (Oil & Gas) in our Houston office to support our Global Finance and Energy Transactions practice areas. The Specialist Paralegal will support attorneys working on complex finance and other corporate transactions in the oil and gas sector, including upstream, midstream, and downstream projects. The ideal candidate will have significant experience handling transactional matters, strong knowledge of oil and gas industry terminology, oil and gas mortgage and other filings, and the ability to work independently on document management, due diligence, and closing processes. In this capacity, the Specialist Paralegal will: Perform work in an efficient and cost-effective manner so as to permit the Firm to reasonably collect fees for such work; Meet expectations of billable hours target of 1,725 (unless otherwise specified); Under the supervision of an attorney, draft and review contracts related oil and gas liens and conveyances and other legal documents; Prepare and file documents with county recording offices and regulatory agencies; Manage key aspects of deal lifecycle on behalf of attorneys, including creating and maintaining checklists, identifying critical deadlines, and organizing communications; Organize, review, and maintain documents and diligence materials; prepare and distribute signature pages; compile and finalize documents and closing binders; Review and file UCC financing statements; order and review UCC lien searches and corporate documents; coordinate with external vendors regarding the same; Maintain records of oil and gas transactions, contracts, and other legal documents; Partner and coordinate with internal resources and outside vendor services; Direct work and train team members; Coordinate with other areas/departments of the Firm where overlap exists to develop efficient procedures/communications to streamline processes and satisfy various department needs; Work overtime as required; travel as required; and Handle additional related projects as assigned. Proficiencies: Advanced proficiency in MS Outlook and web-based conference call/web-sharing applications; Advanced proficiency in MS Word and document editing/comparison applications; Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and spreadsheet/database applications; Advanced proficiency in MS PowerPoint and presentation applications; Advanced proficiency with timekeeping and expense reporting applications; and Strong knowledge of legal billing processes. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree (required); At least 10 years of Paralegal experience (required); At least 10 years of oil & gas experience (required); Familiarity with mortgage, environmental and regulatory filings related to oil and gas assets; and Exposure to multi-jurisdictional transactions, especially across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and other oil and gas regions.
