Position Summary We are currently looking for an Associate to join the Project Development and Finance practice in our Tokyo office. Established in 1987, we have grown into one of the largest law firms in Japan, drawing upon a diverse team of bengoshi and lawyers qualified internationally, principally in England & Wales and the United States, who consistently deliver results for our clients. One of the critical elements of our success in Japan has been that we are a full-service law firm and able to advise on virtually all business matters, including corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, financial transactions and regulation, projects and energy, antitrust, intellectual property, and real estate. We are looking for an Associate who has good judgment, excellent analytical skills and experience in major project development or project finance or has worked across both areas, preferably in cross border transactions. You will have the necessary skill to undertake a range of documentation and communication tasks to drive processes forward, as well as to manage a substantial amount of contractual work, drafting and negotiating commercial and finance documents. Duties and Accountabilities1 England & Wales, US or other Common Law jurisdiction admission 1-8 years’ post admission experience Experience advising developers, equity investors, suppliers, offtakers and financiers Experience in cross-border project development and finance transactions will be preferred Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail Excellent communication skills, business English and Japanese will be preferred Strong professional presence and client focus Adept at managing multiple work streams and delivering flawless work within short timeframes Personable and adept at building professional relationships with colleagues, clients and outside parties Location & Reporting This is an Associate role based in Tokyo.
