Troutman Pepper’s Tax Practice subgroup of its Tax & Benefits Group is seeking to add an associate with two years of experience working with the government agencies and bureaucracies and one year experience interacting with clients to triage their needs to join our Tax & Benefits team based in our Washington, DC office. The position will: work on advanced estate, generation skipping transfer, income, and inheritance tax planning matters; draft and prepare legal documents and perform all assignments in strict compliance with ethical guidelines governing the practice of law; collaborate with individuals inside and outside the firm as appropriate to complete projects or tasks; assist in advising clients on sophisticated issues, interpret laws, rules, and regulations, and perform necessary legal research; prepare memos for clients and other attorneys within the firm as needed, working collaboratively to advise our clients; attend meetings with Associates and Partners and participate in conference calls and client meetings; establish priorities and work concurrently on a variety of projects while consistently exhibiting a high degree of professionalism; prioritize and multitask, have superior writing and communications skills, and use initiative and discretion in accomplishing routine assignments with minimum supervision; develop relationship with clients as they establish legal needs, provide counsel, help them understand their legal options, and represent them in court and negotiations; conduct research and provide analysis/interpretations of legal problems, laws, rulings, and regulations; prepare gift tax and estate tax returns; provide a unique perspective on international aspects of estate planning. Candidates must have a Juris Doctorate (or a foreign degree equivalent), Master of Laws in taxation with focus on estate planning. Candidates must be a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar (or be willing to waive in or sit for a pass the bar exam).
