<p>Clariant is seeking a Senior Patent Agent to join our global intellectual property management (IPM) team to create value from IP, advise internal clients on IP matters, represent Clariant before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and support IP licensing and litigation cases. The Senior Patent Agent will work cross-functionally with the global IPM team, drive intellectual property (IP) strategy development and advise our business leaders on IP matters. In addition, they will be responsible for strategic IP portfolio management developing IP training concepts; coaching IP counsel in legal proceedings before the USPTO and supporting complex contracts. This position is based in Louisville, KY; candidates willing to relocate to Louisville are welcome to apply.</p>

<p><br> <b>Responsibilities</b></p>
<p></p>
<ul>
<li>Preparing and prosecuting patent applications to ensure registration, enforcement, and defense of technical IP rights </li>
<li>Ensuring technical and economic freedom-to-operate for the company </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Performing analysis and supporting investigations and providing support of legal opinions (infringement/freedom-to-operate/validity)</li>
<li>Supporting IP-related litigation activities (infringement, invalidation) before courts </li>
<li>Providing support for contracts with a technical and/or scientific background (patent-license contracts, know-how agreements, research cooperation agreements and secrecy agreements)</li>
<li>Supporting IP licensing cases and patent-related activities in M&A projects</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Driving IP strategy development, implementation, and execution; driving strategic IP Portfolio Management</li>
<li>Ensuring compliance in all IP-related issues and actions</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Educating Clariant personnel on patent matters and technology-related contract matters and conducting training to foster IP awareness for business/R&D staff and other relevant stakeholders</li>
</ul>

<p><b>Requirements</b></p>
<p></p>
<ul>
<li>Registration before US Patent and Trademark Office; University Degree in relevant Technology/Science; Master’s degree or PhD preferred</li>
<li>At least 5 years post IP qualification and relevant IP experience in business/technology area, ideally in an international corporation; chemical experience preferred</li>
<li>Long term experience and understanding of patent laws and procedures to provide strategic advice on how IP can be leveraged to generate value</li>
