Our Indianapolis, IN office has an opportunity for an Employee Benefits Paralegal to join our expanding Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group. The Employee Benefits Paralegal will draft and review corporate resolutions and benefit plan documents, conduct legal research, and support our Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group. Essential Functions Draft resolutions for adoption by board of directors or administrative committee relating to employee benefit plan matters. Draft and review plan documents, summary plan descriptions, summaries of material modification, administrative forms, communication and enrollment materials, required notices and disclosures, and administrative policies and procedures. Draft correspondence relating to plan documents and benefit issues. Assist with benefits issues involved in mergers and acquisitions and plan terminations. Prepare IRS and DOL filings related to benefit plans, and assist with IRS and DOL audit responses. Assist with review of service agreements, contracts, and policies related to benefit plans. Assist with research regarding legal issues surrounding benefit plans and administration. Assist with preparation and electronic filing of annual reports (5500 series and related schedules), including late filings under delinquent filer program, and related summary annual reports. Assist in preparing blogs and speeches regarding benefit plan topics. Monitor plan disclosures, filing deadlines, and timely adoption and execution of plan documents. Maintain and organize client and firm electronic files, including sample documents for employee benefits practice group. Attend appropriate practice group meetings, seminars, employee benefit organization meetings, and client meetings. Read advance sheets and employee benefit periodicals daily to keep updated on legal changes. Requirements 5+ years of paralegal or equivalent experience in an employee benefits-related role in a law firm, consulting firm, accounting firm, corporate benefits department or related field with a strong background in compliance and legal aspects of employee benefits. Law Firm experience preferred. Paralegal certification/degree from accredited college or university preferred. Experience with electronic filing preferred. Must possess superior analytical skills. Must be willing to commit to additional hours when necessary to reach Firm objectives. Please note, we are not working with outside recruiters for this position.
