**Required Qualifications**
* MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited graduate school.
* Demonstrated knowledge of current and evolving collection development practices and issues, technical services processes and procedures, legal publishing, legal research resources, and legal education.
* Significant experience with and knowledge of law library print and electronic research collections.
* Five years of increasing administrative responsibility in an academic law library.
* Five years of supervisory experience in an academic law library.
* Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.
* Demonstrated strong service philosophy.
* Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work independently as well as collaboratively.
* Effective analytical and organizational skills.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute actively to the law library profession through both scholarly productivity and participation in professional activities.

* Experience with budget management.

**Overview**
The University of Minnesota Law Library invites applications for the position
of Associate Director for Collection Development. The Associate Director
provides leadership in defining the scope and content of one of the preeminent
legal research collections in the United States. The significant depth and
breadth of the Library’s collection supports the research and curricular needs
of faculty and students at one of the nation’s top public law schools.
Building upon historical strengths, the Library maintains extensive holdings
in US., foreign, comparative, and international law, including a particularly
rich human rights law collection. In addition to managing all aspects of
collection development, the Associate Director for Collection Development
oversees the Library’s technical services operations and is a member of the
Library's senior administrative team.
The Associate Director for Collection Development reports to the Director of
the Law Library. Professional librarians are hired under the University of
Minnesota Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) employee
classification system, which may lead to promotion and continuous appointment
based on successful fulfillment of library duties, published scholarship, and
professional participation.

Responsibilities**
Duties include:
* Overseeing all aspects of collection development, including selection and weeding, collection evaluation and analysis, acquisitions budget management, license negotiation, and publisher and vendor relations.
* Working closely with faculty to keep abreast of evolving scholarly interests and curricular developments.
* Overseeing technical services operations, and directly supervising the Head of Cataloging and the Acquisitions Department Manager.
* Serving as a member of the library's management team and participating in strategic planning and policy development.
* Preparing financial and statistical reports.
* Providing leadership in planning collection management projects.
* Facilitating collaboration between the Law Library and University Libraries with regard to collection development and technical services workflows and special projects.
* Serving as the library’s Federal Depository Library Program coordinator.
* Representing the Law Library at the campus, regional, and national levels.
* Engaging in research and scholarship relevant to law librarianship, legal education, or substantive legal subjects.
* Participating in professional service activities.
