Experienced litigator with significant knowledge of environmental health law who places the highest priority on building trusting, supportive client relationships and providing top-notch representation. Vijya Patel is a litigation attorney with experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, litigation, and contracts in diverse fields including air quality, environmental health, pharmaceutical, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and general business operations. Vijya places high priority on taking the time to listen to her client to gain a solid understanding of all issues, strengths and weaknesses of the case and working as a team with the client to determine viable solutions. Collaboration, patience and empathy are just a few of Vijya's greatest strengths, and she uses these strengths to build trust and provide outstanding client service. Vijya spent the last five and half years of her career serving as Assistant Solicitor for the Allegheny County Health Department. As the Assistant Solicitor, Vijya was responsible for supporting air quality, housing, food safety, plumbing programs, water pollution control and waste management programs. She developed and drove legal strategy in litigation before the administrative tribunal and federal, state, and bankruptcy courts to defend department regulations, state COVID-19 orders, and federal environmental laws. She also served on the Hazard Investigation and Regulation team in support of the Department's bid for reaccreditation before the Public Health Accreditation Board and compiled examples and developed narratives to demonstrate that the Department's policies, projects, and initiatives met the Public Health Accreditation Board's standards. Her responsibilities also included conducting legal review of over 1,000 Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law requests pursuant to relevant privacy regulations, including HIPAA and CBI. Vijya researched relevant local, state, and federal rules and regulations to create policy and guidance documents for consistent and standard operations. She drafted, reviewed, and negotiated agreements related to settlement and consent orders to achieve compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations from individuals, corporations and municipalities without expending further resources. She interpreted federal, state, and local laws and regulations to provide legal counsel and minimize risk in environmental enforcement operations and in other areas including the Americans with Disabilities Act, HIPAA, and COVID-19. Prior to joining Tucker and working at the Allegheny County Health Department, Vijya served as a Law Clerk at the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Atlanta, Georgia and was Counsel for Unipack, Inc. dba U.S. Pharmaceuticals. Vijya graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. In her free time, Vijya enjoys playing tennis and traveling.
